Product Details
Chicory traveler (Cichorium intybus) is a common plant that can be found in meadows, roadways and fields, as well as in cultivation. Its characteristic feature is beautiful, azure flowers. The herb is harvested in April from wild plants. To obtain them, the tops of shoots with a length of about 20 cm are cut, without lignified stems, and then dried in dryers. Its roots are excavated in autumn. In the cultivation there are leafy chicory varieties (endives) intended for salads that can be found in grocery stores. Chicory owes its name "TRAVELER" to a group of botanists who have noticed that it grows most often along the road. Other names are the blue traveler, goat milk, popie tube and honey princess. The bioactive substances of leaves and chicory shoots include flavonoids, apigenin derivatives, hyperoside and hydroxycoumarin. The flowers contain anthocyanins and ceorine. The substances present in chicory herb have a beneficial effect on the digestive system. They stimulate the stomach and duodenum to secrete digestive juices, which is why they are helpful in cases of indigestion and outbreak of these organs. They also support the proper secretion of bile through the liver and the functioning of the gall bladder. They improve the flow of bile, thus preventing the formation of gallstones. Leaf extracts used in the studies showed a protective effect on the liver and prevented its damage by free radicals. Chicory ingredients support the removal of pollutants from the blood, bile ducts, urinary tract and kidneys through their diuretic action. They also have a positive effect on the nervous system and show a slight sedative effect. Composition: Dried chicory herb 100%. The raw material of the highest quality. Directions for use: To prepare one portion of infusion, just pour 1-2 teaspoons of herb into boiling water and brew under cover for 10-15 minutes. It should be used together with the chicory root CONTRAINDICATIONS: Chicory herb is completely safe. Side effects: Sometimes allergic reactions may occur. You should stop using the herb then. CHARACTERISTIC OF PLANT Chicory traveler belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is also called a blue traveler, ordinary chicory or goat milk. It is common in Poland, it can be found in meadows, pastures, fields of arable land, road shoulders and fallow land. It has spread all over the world and grows wild or is grown. In cultivation, cultivars with highly developed root, used in the production of coffee, and leaf varieties for salads. Chicory reaches from 30 to 120cm in height. Its stems are thin, but hard and fibrous, so it's hard to break them. They form many branches. Little leaves grow on them but a lot of flowers. The leaves are small and have a lance shape. The flowers are usually blue, less often white or pink. Their diameter measures about 3-4cm. They consist of numerous, longitudinal petals. Chicory root is thick, fleshy and bitter in taste.
